Vintage magazine clippings.

Some changes have been made to the blog today. Have you seen the new header, what do you think of it?
I'm throughly enjoying this crisp fall morning. I'm  getting caught up on some design homework while listening to the 'Goon Show'. I wanted to get in a quick blog post though. So, without further adieu here are some fashion shots from a 1969 issue of McCalls and some from a 1971 issue.

Check out these fashionable ladies. The woman on the left is making me want to rush out and hunt for a jumpsuit. I also think that women should wear gloves again.
Check out those accessories and that fantastic scarf! This issue is from January 1971 but I think this look would work for a crisp September day, what do you think?
Now this is what I call travelling in style! Check out the bell sleeves the woman on the left is sporting!
In need of some hair inspiration? Why not try this stylish 'do? Look at this woman's fantastic choker.
I love the t-strap heels the woman on the right is wearing, I have a pair similar to these. I'm not too keen on what the woman on the left is wearing though.

Well, I hope you've all enjoyed this quick Saturday post. Did you get any style inspiration?

My birthday resolutions

I was born on September 8, 1990 and yesterday I celebrated my 23rd birthday. Some people dread becoming another year older, they feel that the older they get the more they have to be serious, to act like an "adult".  Technically, I have been an adult for awhile now but I still don't feel like one. Age is but a state of mind. This may be the reason that I still use Lisa Frank products for school.

My Mom, Mommom, Brianna(sister), Jeremy celebrated with me yesterday. I made mango salsa, guacamole and I put out some tortilla chips, brie and crackers because my idea of a party is a lot of snacks! For dinner we had tacos, my favorite, and for dessert my Mom made me a red velvet birthday cake and I made homemade sticky buns. Like I said in an earlier post, my sister and I like to throw our own dance parties and we did just that for my birthday. I made a playlist of Bobby Darin, ABBA and assorted disco and 60's hits.

Brianna wore this fantastic blue gown that she got from "Twice Loved Treasures" in Vineland NJ.
I'm so proud!
This is her very first vintage piece and I am so proud!
There is a beautiful butterfly broach attached to the middle
of the dress and the gorgeous cape is optional, but I think
the gown is more dramatic with it. I hope this gown leads to more vintage pieces. I know when I got my very first vintage
dress I knew I had to have more! However, the dress I wore
was not vintage but it looks like it could be from the 60's. The shoes are vintage, they were my Mommom's.

Most people make resolutions only at the beginning of the new year but I make them every year on my birthday, I treat is as a fresh start. Does anyone else make resolutions on their birthday or any other time of the year other then the new year? Most of my resolutions this year are cliche, exersise everyday, keep my room clean, don't slack off in school and read and write for fun everyday.  My major resolution is to be more social and outgoing. When I go to school I keep to myself and that was okay for a couple of years but I would like to meet new people. So, I plan to participate in class more often, make conversation with the people sitting around me and not to isolate myself while I'm on campus. I once read that to make a resolution work there has to be a plan. I am socially inept so if anyone has any tips I would love to hear them!

Mommom, Me, Brianna, and Jeremy

We're all quite strange.

Sometimes I like the 70's.

People are fluid. Their likes and interests aren't stagnant and they change and grow over time. I have an obsession with 50's and 60's fashion (and recently I have lusted after Edwardian garments) but I have a love for all things vintage and retro. I don't feel right when I dress in modern garments, it's as if I am wearing a costume.  I read somewhere that selecting what you are going to wear is equivalent to who you're going to be today and I think that is so true. I have never felt right participating in present  fashions and pop culture since I was a child. However, I have a soft spot for all things "90's" (but I will never consider it vintage you damn hipsters) and the internet, the internet is everything!

My obsession for the 50's and 60's does not stop me from sporting pieces from the 70's, they happen to be dresses since I have a weakness for dresses.

I wore the tangerine gown to a mock prom my sister threw. She prefers to be a homebody (just like me!!!) so we celebrate all her major dances at home so she doesn't feel left out. I really don't blame her, school functions, especially prom aren't the highlight of your teenage years. They're dumb and not worth the money you pay for them. Proms were always a major disappointment! I never understood why anyone would buy an expensive gown to dry hump to horrible music on the dance floor, eat bland catering hall food and then call it a night!  I got this tangerine prom gown at the Goodwill in Glassboro in April (The cape is separate from the dress). For our prom we made personal pizzas with toppings that we chose and then danced in the living room to all the music we liked. It was a lot of fun!
The picture below is of Jeremy and I at a party that my sister threw for my Mommom's cat, Clyde. I wore a fantastic polyester dress that originally came from Sears. I purchased the dress from "Twice Loved Treasures" in Vineland. Jeremy got in on the 70's action with a vintage tie. My sister put out a fantastic spread for Clyde's 10th birthday party. I got to the house early to set up since she helped me so much with Ginger's ( Jeremy and I's furbaby) birthday party.
I've always had a love for 70's fashion. When I was in 5th grade I was obsessed with ABBA which kick started my love for the 70's. I made my Mom feather my hair each morning before I went to school. I made a whole ton of friends this way.

with the birthday boy.

So I'm asking you my dear readers. What thoughts go through your mind when dressing? Do you just not feel right when you're not dressed as the person you see yourself to be?

Vintage Vacation.

Every summer my family and I take our vacation in Wildwood Crest, New Jersey and right now I am in the midst of a throughly relaxing vacation. That doesn't mean that my urge to thrift and collect vintage has subsided, just this afternoon I purchased a gorgeous yellow chiffon 60's party dress at a shop called "What Goes On" on the boardwalk. I will dedicate a future post to the dress at a later date, right now I want to promote "What Goes On"!

Last summer I noticed the store I used to purchase my posters and band tee-shirts had changed its name from "Cookies" to "What Goes On" I was upset that one of my Wildwood haunts had changed but then I saw the vintage clothing displayed in the front of the store, my wallet cried.
.
During the hottest days of summer I purchased this fantastic 70's wool skirt! I was excited when I tried it on and it fit but I couldn't wait to take it off as it was at least 100 degrees that day! I planned on wearing it at Christmas time and the photo below shows me in the wool skirt with my Sister and I and the mini Christmas tree.
It doesn't get more festive then this.
Anyway, back to the shop! If you are a vintage fanatic and you are in Wildwood you must visit "What Goes On"! (https://www.facebook.com/pages/What-Goes-On/535869616455892) They have a wide selection of authentic vintage dresses, blouses and skirts. On a boardwalk that is full of tee-shirt shops and snack stands, "What Goes On" stands out, find your one of a kind piece at the loveliest shop on the Wildwood boardwalk.

Super Seventies Sunday.

Earlier this week I bought a romper that I described as looking like something Mr. Furly would wear if he was a woman. I bought it because it was different, I can't say I've ever seen anyone wear anything like it. The past couple of days have been sweltering, so I decided to go public with my "walking couch pattern",as my sister would call it, today.

Jeremy and I went out for a nice lunch at Tomo Sushi in Glassboro. I highly recommend it as their lunch special prices are very reasonable. A waitress complimented my outfit which caught me off guard  because I was expecting to be laughed at. After lunch Jeremy went to the liquor store and I went to the Goodwill to go dress hunting. I found a fantastic blue and white 60's mini dress that I will blog about later. While I was in mid-hunt I received another outfit compliment.

I was surprised that I got two compliments today. Although I was confident with my outfit and I loved it I was still expecting negativity and laughs. My "Furly" romper is a lot of look and that's why I bought it and I'm glad it was received so well.

So, dear readers what are your thoughts? Do you like the look? Do you buy things that you like that you don't think will go over so well?
One more shot. Me and a furry friend.

I'm back, seriously this time.

Well, I am finished the semester and I am committed to this blog. I know I've said that I was committed before but I really mean it this time. I've gotten a lot of new pieces and I plan to go on a lot of thrifting adventures this summer.

Yesterday was the end of my Spring semester so I decided to treat myself to some new duds at the Salvation army. I went alone which was nice because I could hunt at my own pace but I didn't have anyone to get an opinion from. I got a lot of nice things but my treasure was this purple dress.
After I inspected it I figured the dress is from the mid to late 60's or very early 70's. I've gotten a little better with dating clothes. I paired it with a cute pair of heels, I don't know when they came from but they look 60's to me. I also wore my circle sunglasses and a scarf that you can see in the photo below. I was having some fun at my Mommom's house.
I call this "frazzled housewife"

Over the past couple of weeks I've had a lot of success finding authentic vintage pieces at my local thrift stores so I've been able to expand my collection.

I hope you enjoyed this post!
